“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” — Colossians 3:1-3 (NKJV)
As you grow in your relationship with God, one of the most critical aspects to address is your values, because they shape the outcome of your life. What you value determines your priorities, and your priorities ultimately dictate the direction of your life. If your focus is on mundane things, you will naturally channel your efforts and resources into that direction. Conversely, if you value eternal things, your priorities will align with God’s purpose for you.
For instance, if you place excessive value on material possessions such as clothes, bags, and worldly comforts, those things will consume your attention and resources. At the end of the day, such pursuits add no lasting value to your life or the lives of others. Sadly, this is the reality for many today. They spend years chasing things that bring temporary satisfaction but have no eternal significance. That’s why it is important to continually evaluate and align your values with God’s Word.
The Bible clearly instructs us: “If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:1-3 NKJV). This passage reminds us of our true purpose and identity in Christ. We are called to focus on eternal matters that carry lasting impact.
While it is good to enjoy the comforts and achievements of life, they should not overshadow the ultimate goal—eternity with God. Life on earth is temporary, and none of the material possessions we accumulate will follow us beyond this world. Therefore, make a conscious effort to prioritize eternal things. Focus on the destination—eternity with God—rather than being overly preoccupied with the journey.
This, of course, doesn’t mean neglecting responsibilities or aspirations on earth. Achieving life’s basic necessities and comforts is important for a smoother journey. However, the pursuit of these things must never distract you from the ultimate goal: living a life that honors God and prepares you for eternity. Hallelujah!
Today’s Rhema
What we do on earth is just a journey; the destination is eternity, and that should be the focus!
Confession for Today
I choose this day to focus on the goal and not the journey. I choose to take my eyes off anything that will distract me from the goal, and as I do this, I am having great testimonies in Jesus’ Name. Amen!
