Man holding ship s wheel

Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? –Isaiah 43:18–19 (NKJV)

As the years go by, what do you see? Are you dwelling on wasted months and days, or are you looking ahead to the years still before you? Some people focus on all the time that’s passed without achieving their goals, and they feel discouraged. But no amount of regret will change the past. As a child of God, don’t fall into the habit of looking back at what went wrong. Instead, train your eyes on what God is doing now and what He will do in the future.

Those who look back only end up with regret and sorrow. Remember Lot’s wife. When God sent His angels to rescue Lot from Sodom, they commanded, Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed Genesis 19:17 (NKJV). Yet Lot’s wife looked back—and became a pillar of salt. Genesis 19:26 (NKJV). Her fate shows how dangerous it is to cling to the past.

That said, there is value in sober reflection—to learn from mistakes so we can grow. But dwelling in regret is unhelpful.

Therefore, be encouraged today to set your focus on what lies ahead. Yes, years may have slipped by without things going your way, but you still have countless opportunities before you. Rather than lament what you didn’t achieve, start pursuing what you can accomplish in the months to come. Commit your goals into the Lord’s hands, and you’ll be amazed at how He turns things in your favor. Keep your head up, fix your gaze on tomorrow’s promises, and step boldly toward them. You have a bright future—praise God!

Today’s Rhema

Put your focus on the opportunities ahead of you, not the wasted years!

Confession for the day

Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank You for the days past and give You glory for all You have done. I thank You for the plans You have ahead of me. I declare that Your wisdom is at work in me, guiding me in the path You’ve prepared, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
