Fix Your Attention on the Unseen

For we fix our attention, not on things that are seen, but on things that are unseen. What can be seen lasts only for a time, but what cannot be seen lasts forever. 2 Corinthians 4:18 (GNT)

Years ago, when I was going through a very difficult moment as a young believer, I went to God in prayer to find out what was going on with me. God spoke to me through our opening text. He said I was moving by sight and not by faith. At first, I wondered why He said that, so I paid close attention to hear more. Then He said, “Refuse to be moved by what you see because they are temporary. Fix your attention on the unseen (His promises) because they are permanent—and that is where reality lies.”

When I heard this, I immediately realized that my focus all that time was on the wrong thing. I also realized that what I was fixing my attention on was temporary.

So, I decided to make an immediate adjustment. Instead of focusing on the situation, I began to fix my attention on God’s promises for my life and declare them in prayer and during times of meditation. To my surprise, the situations that seemed like mountains began to fade away, and the promises of God began to find expression in my life. From then onwards, I realized that if I am going to prevail in any situation, I have to fix my attention on the unseen and not the seen.

Beloved, if you want to prevail over any situation in your life, I encourage you to fix your attention on the unseen (His promises) and take your eyes off what you can see. The visible can be very intimidating and discouraging. If that is all you see and dwell on, you will surely break under the pressure. So, like the scripture admonishes, I encourage you to set your gaze on the invisible and take your eyes off the visible. If you will meditate enough on the promises of God—which are the unseen reality—you will surely come out of that situation victoriously. Praise God!

Confession for the Day

Father, I thank You for opening my eyes to this secret. I choose to fix my attention on the unseen, and as I do this, Your promises for my life are prevailing and becoming my reality, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
