Close up of a burning flame

For this reason I remind you to keep alive the gift that God gave you when I laid my hands on you.
—2 Timothy 1:6 (GNT)

When you received Jesus into your life, you did not only receive the gift of salvation, you also received the Holy Spirit—the Spirit of God and the third person of the Godhead. He is the One God sent into your life to make your born-again experience a reality. He is the One who regenerated your spirit and brought you into new life in Christ.

Now, one important thing you must understand about the Holy Spirit is that He comes bearing gifts. These gifts begin to manifest through you as you walk daily with God. They are given to help you live a life of power and to make you an effective witness of Jesus and His Gospel. However, one thing is to receive these gifts, and another thing is to keep them alive, active, and effective so they can deliver results when you need them most.

Sadly, many believers are not conscious of the gifts they carry. Some are not even aware that they have spiritual gifts at all. This ignorance causes the gifts to lie dormant. Victories that should have been secured through the operation of these gifts are lost, not because God failed, but because the believer failed to stir up what God had already given.

To ensure that the gifts of the Holy Spirit do not remain dormant in your life, you must deliberately fan them into flame. First, live every day with the awareness that you carry spiritual gifts. Second, cultivate a consistent Bible study life, because the Word of God keeps spiritual gifts alive and sharpened. Finally, pray in tongues regularly. This single discipline powerfully stirs up spiritual gifts and keeps them active and responsive.

Therefore, I admonish you to become conscious of the gifts the Holy Spirit has placed within you and to be diligent in keeping them active. When you do, those gifts will always be ready to deliver results whenever the need arises. Hallelujah!

Confession for the Day

Father, I am grateful for the gifts You have given me through Your Spirit. I choose to be conscious of these gifts, and I receive the wisdom and discipline to keep them alive and active in Jesus’ name. Amen!
