“My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. By this, we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him.” — 1 John 3:18-19 (NKJV)
People often express love with beautiful words. They tell their loved ones things like, “I love you with all my heart,” or “You mean the world to me.” Many even express similar sentiments toward God, saying, “I love You, Lord,” or “My life is nothing without You.” Words are powerful, and it’s great to reassure those we love with them. However, true love goes beyond words—it’s also demonstrated through actions.
The depth of love a person has is best measured by their actions and sacrifices. It’s about what they’re willing to give up for the one they love. For example, you can’t say you love your wife if you’re unfaithful because true love is selfless. You can’t claim to love your husband if you’re quarrelsome because love seeks peace, not strife. And you can’t say you love God if you neglect to pray and spend time with Him. Love, especially toward God, requires time, attention, and devotion.
So, what’s the takeaway? It’s simple—love must be shown through deeds. Words alone can never fully express the love that actions can communicate. That’s why our opening scripture instructs us to love not just in words, but in deeds and truth. Love has a language, and that language is best communicated by what we do, especially when those deeds are done in truth.
Start today by showing your love through actions—whether it’s toward your family, friends, or God. Let your deeds speak louder than your words. Praise God!
