“They came to Jericho, and as Jesus was leaving with his disciples and a large crowd, a blind beggar named Bartimaeus son of Timaeus was sitting by the road. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, ‘Jesus! Son of David! Have mercy on me!’ Many of the people scolded him and told him to be quiet. But he shouted even more loudly, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!'” — Mark 10:46–48 (GNT)
Every now and then, you find many of God’s people who stop calling on Him simply because they didn’t receive a response the first time they prayed. But the question is—does God want us to quit every time we don’t get the answer we’re looking for? The answer is no. God wants us to keep pressing in the place of prayer until we receive what we’re asking for. Sadly, that’s not the case today. Too many people give up quickly and begin to harbor resentment against God—which ought not to be.
Beloved, if you truly want to prevail with God, you must make a conscious decision to remain steadfast until you receive the answers or solutions you seek. There are many reasons why answers don’t always come quickly. Sometimes, it could be due to demonic resistance. Other times, it may be that you haven’t generated enough spiritual power to birth the solution. Yet, instead of pressing deeper in prayer, many give up too soon.
However, we must learn from the story of Bartimaeus. In our opening text, he cried out to the Lord Jesus Christ, but initially, there was no response. Worse still, the people around him tried to silence him. They told him to keep quiet—but instead of giving in, he cried out even more loudly. He kept calling out until he got the Master’s attention. Bartimaeus knew what he wanted. He knew this was his moment to receive healing, and he pursued it with unwavering determination.
Beloved, do you want to get heaven’s attention? If your answer is yes, then understand—it won’t happen without resilience and persistent effort. I encourage you today: keep calling on God until you get the answers you’re looking for. Remember what the Bible says: “Everyone who calls out to the Lord for help will be saved.” — Romans 10:13 (GNT) Hallelujah!
