“…And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Has the Lord’s arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not.’” — Numbers 11:23 (NKJV)
When the Israelites demanded meat in the wilderness, it seemed like an impossible request because a wilderness is hardly the place to find meat. Yet, when Moses presented this need to God, the Lord declared: “Consecrate yourselves for tomorrow, and you shall eat meat; for you have wept in the hearing of the Lord, saying, ‘Who will give us meat to eat? For it was well with us in Egypt.’ Therefore, the Lord will give you meat, and you shall eat. You shall eat, not one day, nor two days, nor five days, nor ten days, nor twenty days, but for a whole month, until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes loathsome to you…” — Numbers 11:18-20 (NKJV).
When Moses heard this, he unconsciously limited God, saying: “The people whom I am among are six hundred thousand men on foot, yet You have said, ‘I will give them meat, that they may eat for a whole month.’ Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to provide enough? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered to provide enough for them?” — Numbers 11:21-22 (NKJV).
In response, God asked, “Has the Lord’s arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen to you or not.” — Numbers 11:23 (NKJV). True to His word, the Bible recounts that a wind from the Lord blew quails into the camp of the Israelites—so much so that they had more than enough to eat for an entire month (Numbers 11:31-34).
This story reveals God’s incredible ability to do far more than we could ever imagine. Yet, we often magnify our challenges and perceive them as insurmountable, almost as if they’re beyond God’s power. But no matter how dire or impossible a situation may seem, nothing is beyond our Creator. The key is to trust Him wholeheartedly, refusing to limit His power in our minds. Hallelujah!
