“…now the word of the Lord came to Samuel saying, “I greatly regret I have set up Saul as King, for he has turned back from following me and has not performed my commandments…” —1 Samuel 15:10 (NKJV)
We live in a very busy world where everything and everyone seems to be moving quickly, and it’s easy to get left behind. So the one who has a business works as hard as he can to ensure he makes a profit and remains relevant. The one who is employed gives his service with commitment. So we see a lot of people putting a lot of energy into their jobs. Many work as doctors, lawyers, clerks, assistants, dancers, actors, teachers, analysts, scientists, technicians, engineers, pilots, sailors, and the list goes on. And surely the hard work will always pay off because, as we grow in what we do, we experience God’s gracious blessings that bring us promotion and comfort. It is what everyone desires: that one day, their labor will pay off, and when it does, they will enjoy more comfort and receive a bigger and fatter paycheck than what they started with.
But is life this simple? Can a man have everything he ever dreamed of? Well, the truth is that he can, but the sad reality about this is that man is never satisfied. As a man receives promotions, he hungers for more. And this could lead us away from God’s presence. The more promotion a man gets, the busier he becomes, and the busier he becomes, the less time he has for God. What do I do then? You might ask? Isn’t it obvious? Do not get promoted or be so successful that you forget the one who made it happen. We should never forget the one who gives the rain. As Christians, when we get promoted, it should get us closer to God because we see the hand of God in our promotion. When we excel in life, it should make people testify of what God has done for us, not make the people around us wish it never happened because we changed. Promotion and success for a Christian should be for good. Promotion for a Christian should bring participation in Kingdom work, not the other way around. Therefore, I encourage you today to always remember God, no matter what kind of blessing or promotion you receive.

Confession for the Day
Father in the name of Jesus, I thank you because I see that your plans for me are to make me strong and great. And I declare that as I get greater, I will use my greatness as an instrument for soul-winning. I will use my greatness to draw closer to You. I will not be found missing in Your presence. Amen!
