“Don’t be worried on account of the wicked; don’t be jealous of those who do wrong. They will soon disappear like grass that dries up; they will die like plants that wither.”Psalm 37:1–2 (GNT)

One of the most common questions I’ve been asked over the years as a pastor is this: “How come the wicked do wicked things and still have everything going good for them, and yet I, who have been following the Lord and serving Him with all my heart, am having a hard time?” Interestingly, when people ask these questions, they often do so with concrete examples. And when you observe closely, it can really seem like the wicked are getting away with their evil deeds. But the truth remains: that is far from the real situation.

Beloved, no matter how much the wicked may appear to prosper, you must not compare yourself with them or envy them. You’re not on the same path. The sooner you understand this truth, the better. Even if it seems like they’re getting away with their wrongdoing, they are merely living on borrowed time. They are running on God’s mercy—like walking time bombs that could detonate at any moment. The only reason it looks like they’re escaping consequences is because God, in His kindness, is giving them time to repent. If they fail to turn from their evil ways, a tragic outcome awaits them. This is why you must never envy their path.

The Bible is clear: “Don’t be worried on account of the wicked; don’t be jealous of those who do wrong. They will soon disappear like grass that dries up; they will die like plants that wither.” Their end has already been spelled out, unless they repent and receive God’s mercy.

So I encourage you to look away from what is happening with the wicked and instead focus on your walk with God. “Trust in the Lord and do good; live in the land and be safe. Seek your happiness in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desire. Give yourself to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will help you. He will make your righteousness shine like the noonday sun.” (Psalm 37:3–6 GNT). Hallelujah!

Confession for the Day

Father, I am grateful for this wonderful inspiration today. I refuse to be moved by what is happening out there with the wicked, and I choose to set my gaze on You and what You are doing in my life. As I do this, I am flourishing in the path You have destined for me to follow, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
