“I was ready to answer my people’s prayers, but they did not pray. I was ready for them to find me, but they did not even try. The nation did not pray to me, even though I was always ready to answer, ‘Here I am; I will help you…’”Isaiah 65:1 (GNT)

I have often heard people say, “Ever since I became a Christian, I have never had an encounter with God,” or “I really want God to talk to me, but He seems far away.” They speak like this because they truly haven’t experienced the things they desire—and they don’t know how to position themselves for an encounter.

Encounters with God can be life-changing. One meeting with Him can redirect your destiny. Solomon’s first encounter led to divine wisdom (2 Chronicles 1:7–12). Moses’ encounter at the burning bush launched his calling (Exodus 3:1–14). But how do you receive an encounter?

Our opening text reveals that God is ready for us to find Him—but we must seek Him. To position yourself for encounters, give yourself to worship, prayer, fasting, and studying the Word of God.

Worship creates an atmosphere that attracts God’s presence (Psalm 22:3). Prayer and fasting heighten your spiritual sensitivity and focus your heart on Him. Spending time in the Word cleanses doubt and builds the faith required to recognize His voice. The Holy Spirit uses Scripture to speak directly to our hearts. For in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1 NKJV).

Most often, encounters are not dramatic. Sometimes, it’s simply Scripture coming alive in a way that pierces your heart and transforms you. Other times, God speaks a clear word. Because God and His Word are one, paying attention to the Word invites His presence.

Additionally, make it a priority to attend church services. While God’s presence is everywhere, His manifest presence—where encounters flourish—is often stirred through corporate worship and teaching.

So take these steps seriously. Search for Him with all your heart, and He will meet you. Hallelujah!
