“….now it happened, when the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, that he tore his clothes…”2 Kings 22:11 (NKJV)
Beloved, as you walk with God you must fight to be responsive to the almighty God in all your dealings. In other words it is not enough to be a follower of Jesus, you must also fight to respond to His voice, commands and instructions. Until you do this, you are not really responsive to Him. You can’t say you are responsive and yet you find it difficult to attend church services or go for evangelism. You can’t say you are responsive yet you find it difficult to pay your tithe or study the scriptures. That is rigidity and not responsiveness. And when you are rigid, you cannot really experience the fullness of the blessings of the scriptures. Therefore it is important that you train yourself to respond to Jesus. When our Lord Jesus Christ walked the face of this earth, He said something profound that I would like to bring to your notice now. He said “…..My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me….”John 10:27 (NKJV) Meaning those who hear His words are expected to follow it. So, if you are not responsive to Him, you are not a true follower because you are hearing but not following.
Therefore, as your journey with the Lord in your Christian walk, I urge you to become responsive to God. I read a passage of the scripture recently, and it got my attention. A book on the commandments of God was read to King Josiah and immediately he heard the words of the Lord, he realised that Israel had sinned, so he tore his clothes in anguish and sent someone to the prophet of God to confirm what should be done, and when God spoke, this is what God said, “…. as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, in this manner you shall speak to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: “Concerning the words which you have heard— because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you,” says the Lord. “Surely, therefore, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the calamity which I will bring on this place.” So they brought back words to the king…”2 Kings 22:18-20 (NKJV). Why did God give him such an answer? It’s simple! He heard the word of God and was moved by it. He responded to it and it exempted him from the calamity that was to come. Beloved, if you will respond to God in all your dealings, you will live a glorious and fruitful life. Praise God!
