“…for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” – Matthew 12:37 (NKJV)

One thing you must understand if you want to be successful in your Christian walk is that words are powerful and important. Your words are evidence. They will either work for you or against you. Sadly, many people have become victims of their own words—often because of ignorance. They don’t realize that every word they speak is a statement that either fights for them or against them. As a result, they speak carelessly, which ought not to be the case.

If you want to live differently and see different results, you must start paying close attention to what you say—to yourself and to others. You must become intentional about your contemplations, communications, and conversations. Why? Because your contemplations influence your words, whether positively or negatively. When your thoughts are wrong, you’ll find yourself speaking negatively. But when your thoughts are aligned with truth, your words will follow suit.

So, make a conscious decision today to be mindful of your words. Delete negative, unproductive language from your vocabulary and replace it with words that build you up and create the kind of life you want to live.

Now, in case you’re tempted to think this is just motivational talk, take a moment to consider the very words of Jesus: “…by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” – Matthew 12:37 (NKJV). The Amplified Classic says it even more clearly: “…by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced…” – Matthew 12:37 (AMPC). Did you catch that? Your words are spiritual evidence that will either defend or accuse you.

So, if you don’t want to experience the negative outcome described in that verse, start being deliberate with your words. Choose words that align with God’s truth—words that lift, empower, and create. Praise God!

Become deliberate with your words because they are evidence that will either work against you or for you!

Confession for the Day

The light of God’s Word has come to me today, and I receive it with meekness. I choose to become intentional with my speech. I will speak the right words at all times, and as I do, I am built up by my words and not torn down. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
