The hardworking farmer must be the first to partake of the crops. —2 Timothy 2:6 (NKJV)
Most people don’t realize that what we do in our lives, we ultimately do for ourselves. If we choose to serve God, we do it for our own benefit because salvation is a personal journey. On the other hand, if we choose not to serve Him, we must be ready to face the consequences of our choices. As the opening scripture says, the hardworking farmer is always the first to enjoy the fruits of his labor. The work we do as Christians in the house of the Lord will always benefit us first.
Consider someone who gives to the poor in the name of the Lord. They might think the poor person is the only one benefiting while their own resources decrease. However, the Bible teaches us a different perspective on generosity. From the scriptures, we see that giving to those in need actually benefits the giver before it even reaches the recipient.
He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, and He will pay back what he has given. —Proverbs 19:17 (NKJV)
This is because the reward comes from God, who always repays with great generosity. The same principle applies to those who serve in the house of the Lord. Whether you’re sweeping the floors, cleaning chairs, or leading a group, you’re the one who benefits most. Even the key role you play in the choir brings a blessing directly to your life first. You are the primary beneficiary of your service to the King.
Therefore, you should take everything you do in the house of the Lord and in life seriously. Since you are the first partaker of your actions, let this encourage you to always sow the right seeds. If you only sow wrong actions, you’ll be the first to experience the negative consequences. Be mindful of your choices, knowing that positive actions will always bring positive results to your doorstep.
