And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. —Philippians 4:19 (NIV)

Someone once told me, with great conviction, that you can’t have a relationship with God because He is invisible. He said, “You can only have a relationship with things you can touch, feel, and see.” I realized that this is the assumption of many people in the world today. But the Bible shows us otherwise. In fact, from the scriptures, we see a God who goes all the way to reveal Himself to us through the person of Jesus Christ. He didn’t simply reveal Himself, He became one of us and lived and walked among us. (John 1:14)

Beloved, you can have a relationship with God. In fact, God deals with each of us uniquely according to the relationship we have with Him. For example, God referred to Abraham as His friend, saying, “But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, The descendants of Abraham My friend” (Isaiah 41:8, NKJV). This shows that every one of us can have a special and extraordinary relationship with God, regardless of whether we can see or touch Him.

The Word of God was given to help us know God and develop a special relationship with Him. Many people think God is only looking for worship, but that’s not the whole picture; He is looking for love. Even when He gave the commandments, the most important one was, “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength” (Deuteronomy 6:5, NIV).

Jesus Christ affirmed this, saying, “This is the first and greatest commandment” (Matthew 22:38, NIV). Love is the priority. But love is a relationship, something you develop through action, not just by saying, “I love you, Lord.” You must be connected to God in your heart and soul.

It’s time to personalize our relationship with God rather than seeing Him as a distant deity. The heroes of Faith in the Bible had a personal relationship with God, and so can you. He isn’t far from us; He is closer than we know, and we can begin a close relationship with Him today. Amen!
