“…likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble…” 1 Peter 5:5 (NKJV)
Joshua was a man who humbled himself before Moses to the point that wherever Moses went, He went also. And as he was doing this, he was learning and developing. When it was time for someone to take the place of Moses, God chose Joshua because he was always with Moses and was very submissive. He was the right person to stand in the stead of Moses, and he lived a wonderful life. God personally said to Him “…no man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake…” Joshua 1:5 (NKJV) Why? Because he humbled himself.
Amongst all the Israelites, he was exceptional. This is how God wants you to be humble as well. God wants you to put aside your ego and submit yourself to authority so that you can be trained and prepared for a life of influence and impact. If you choose to humble yourself, you will be lifted but if you choose to lift yourself, you will always find yourself brought down because it’s only God that lifts a man up and the criteria is your humility. Therefore, make a conscious decision to be humble, submit to spiritual authority and be willing to follow instructions. When you are corrected, receive it with meekness in your humility and don’t grumble about it. And you will move from glory to glory. Praise God!
