What Is Your Answer to God? Yes or No? (1)

“…then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy, therefore Eli said to Samuel. “Go, lie down, and it shall be that if He calls you, that you must say, “speak Lord, for your servant hears….” —1 Samuel 3:8-9 (NKJV)

In your walk with God over the years, what have your answers been to God? Has it been more of a no or a yes to God? I know this question may sound ridiculous but think about it. Has God been getting a yes from you or it has been a no. For most people, I am sure it has always been a no. They know that God wants them to be in a department and serve there; they know that God wants them to get involved in His work, but their answer has been No. Many of us have been guilty of this at one time or another, but the truth remains that as you walk with God, you must learn to say yes to God at all times. Why? Because God is wiser than you, if He wants something from you, it is in your best interest to say yes because He wants to do you good and not evil.

When God was going to start speaking through Samuel the prophet, he was young and didn’t know God’s voice. But Eli, the priest, taught him how to recognize God’s voice. From our opening text, we notice that before God could speak to Samuel, the boy had to consent and submit to God’s will. Eli taught him to say, “Speak Lord, for your servant hears…”

If Samuel had not said yes, God would not have spoken to him or through him. He would eventually grow to become God’s voice to the people of God, faithfully judging Israel for the rest of his life. God brought deliverance and performed mighty works in Israel through Samuel. And all this happened because Samuel said yes to God.

Beloved, what has the Lord been asking of you over time? What has your answer been? If your answer has been no, it is time to make an adjustment and say YES to God. Hallelujah!
