Close up of a metal oil lamp

“…Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish… but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps…”Matthew 25:2, 4 (NKJV)

Jesus Christ in His teachings gave an amazing parable about the ten virgins. This teaching changed my life a great deal. He said “…the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight a cry was heard: “Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him…”- Matthew 25:1-6. The Bible recorded that when it was time to meet with the bridegroom, the five wise virgins stood up to go get their lamps ready because they had enough oil, but the other five foolish ones could not get their lamps ready because while they were asleep, their lamps went out and they ran out of oil.

They said to the five wise ones “Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.” But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding, and the door was shut…” (Matthew 25:7-10 NKJV). At the end of the day, they could not participate in the occasion that they had long waited for. Do you know why? Because even though they were there for the occasion, they were never really prepared to meet the bridegroom. All their efforts burned out the very moment the door was shut and this is the exact same situation many believers have found themselves in today. Just when they are about to step into that which they have been waiting for, something happens and they watch their opportunity slide away which is not God’s plan for their lives. Beloved, if you want to avoid this in your life, you must learn to use today to prepare for tomorrow. When you understand that today was given to you to make tomorrow better, you will always make very good use of today. Therefore, take advantage of this truth and begin to see today as a tool for preparing for tomorrow. Praise God!
