“…bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and try me now in this, says the Lord of Hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, so that he will not destroy the fruit of your ground…” Malachi 3:10-11 (NKJV)

Some years ago, I met a young man who came to me very sad and he said I should pray for him because he is facing so much problems with his finances. He said he makes money every day but he is not able to give account of it. He said, before he thinks of saving, there will always be one problem or the other that comes and takes the money away. He said I know this is the devourer at work and I want you to pray for me that it should stop. So I asked him, if he pays his tithe and he said no, so I told him that is where your problem is coming from. Anyway, I counselled him on what to do and prayed with him that he may be obedient. Now, I shared that story because there are many people who are like that young man. They get money always but they are not able to give account of it. They keep losing money and are wondering what is going on in their lives. Well, if you are part of those facing this problem, I have news for you. The only way to defeat the devourer is not to pray him away. If that was the case God could have asked us to pray and the devourer will go. But He didn’t, rather He asked us to pay out tithe (Malachi 3:10) and He said, if we do that, He Himself will handle the devourer. Letting us know that our power over the devourer is our tithe.

As long as you are obedient to tithing, He alone knows how to stop the devourer from coming into your finances. This might sound ridiculous as some people do not see how this is possible but it doesn’t change the reality of it. We just saw in our opening scripture that God says he will rebuke the devourer for your sake. It’s God’s terrain not man. Not paying the tithe is like making a decision to take God’s place in fighting the battles that only God can fight for you. Believe me it is a terrible place to be in, so I encourage you to take the tithing principle very seriously. It is a covenant practice that preserves you and everything that concerns your life both financially and otherwise. It is a principle that does what no man or money can do for you. Stop thinking like many out there who feels that someone is interested in their money, rather see tithing as a rare privilege giving to you by God to secure your life. It is an old rugged principle that can change your life forever. Therefore, do the needful. Stop asking questions and just obey God, when you do, you won’t have to pray against the devourer, he will stay away from you because that’s God’s promise. Halleluiah!

TODAY’S RHEMA

When you obey God in tithing, you don’t have to pray against the devourer because he has been taken care of!

CONFESSION FOR THE DAY

Thank you heavenly father for making it possible to connect my finances to your power through tithing. I chose to be obedient to the scriptures and be faithful in tithing because I know that through my faithfulness and obedience, the devourer is kept far from me in the name of Jesus. Amen!
