“Do you see a man hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.” — Proverbs 29:20 (NKJV)
Years ago, as a young believer in Christ Jesus, I often spoke without thinking about the impact of my words. In a short time, I had unknowingly offended many and made several enemies. My words, though not always intended to harm, ended up hurting others. But as I continued in my walk with God, I realized that speaking without forethought was not the way He wanted us to live. So I made a conscious decision to change. I began to think before I spoke, and this small shift brought significant transformation. It helped me maintain healthier relationships and allowed my words to bring encouragement and healing.
You too can walk this path. The first step is to decide that you will no longer speak carelessly. It may take time and effort, but with discipline, you’ll begin to see the fruit of your change. Scripture says, “The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, but the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil.” — Proverbs 15:28 (NKJV). This reveals that wisdom is shown in thoughtful speech, while harm is often the result of rash words.
So take a moment before you speak. Think about the effect your words might have. Will they uplift or tear down? Will they bring peace or stir up strife? When you train yourself to be thoughtful in your communication, your influence grows. Your words will begin to carry healing, comfort, and direction to others. You will build and not destroy. You will become a vessel of grace in conversations that matter.
