“…He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it Rehoboth, saying, “Now the Lord has given us room and we will flourish in the land…” —Genesis 26:22 (NIV)
In the Bible days, we were told that there was a famine in the land of Gerar, and this famine was very bad, and people started to move to Egypt in order to escape the famine. But there is a man who stood out whose name was Isaac. He stayed back and prospered because he knew something. He had heard from God. He stayed in a city that lacked water and every other thing. And yet he prospered. The question is how did he do it? What was his secret? How did he survive? What sustained him in the land? Well, the secret behind Isaac’s staying back, and not running to Egypt was the wells of water he dug after he had heard from God and heeded God’s word. Isaac and his servants kept on digging wells. The more wells they dug, the more water they found, and the more water they found the more opportunity they had to have a flourishing farming year. The Bible shows us in Genesis 26:19 (NIV) that “Isaac’s servant dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water.” The wells they dug saved them from going through famine and helped Isaac to be blessed, such that the Bible says, “Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold because the Lord blessed him.” Genesis 26:12 (NIV).
Now, you may be saying, but why couldn’t others dig too? Well, I don’t think others found water when they dug wells because the Bible shows us otherwise. “…The herders of Gerar quarreled with those of Isaac and said, “The water is ours!” So he named the well Esek, because they disputed with him…” Genesis 26:20 (NIV). You can only try to claim something you don’t have out of jealousy. So it is obvious that the herders of Gerar dug for wells of water and didn’t find them, therefore claimed the ones Isaac dug. So the question is why then was Isaac successful in his digging? He was successful because there is a way to dig, obviously, not everyone who digs will find something. Isaac walked with God and Isaac listened to God. Every time He dug a well, he dug with the backing of God. So God made him prosper. It wasn’t possible to have it any other way. Any man who wants to be a success in life must be like Isaac, he must walk with God and listen to God. As long as we all can do this, when we dig the wells of success and we will find water. So before you start digging your wells today, get right with God and get to know what He is saying. It is the key to digging and finding water. Praise God!

Confession for the Day
Dear Father, I thank you because you are my success, you are the one behind my success, and you always make me succeed. I thank you, because there is nothing I do without your backing, you are always with me, and I can go nowhere without you. Amen!
