In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. —Daniel 10:2-3 (NKJV)
As we saw in the first part of this series, getting God’s attention is not complicated. The only challenge is that many are unwilling to do what it takes, so they conclude it is a mystery reserved for a select few. But the truth is not a mystery; it is a decision. The moment you decide to get God’s attention and are ready to do what is necessary, you will get it.
Remember, you already have God’s attention. The only reason it may not be obvious is that you have not given Him your own. When you give God your attention, you will connect with His, which has always been available.
Our opening scripture tells the story of Daniel, who sought God’s attention regarding a revelation. He didn’t overthink it; he simply decided to begin a three-week journey of prayer and fasting. His goal was to hear from God and discern His message concerning the revelation he had received.
From the very first day Daniel chose to seek God, he got His attention, and an angel was sent with a message. How did he do it? He gave God his own attention, which helped him connect immediately to what God wanted to say. Beloved, whatever you are going through, if you want God’s attention and His will for your life, give Him your focus.
Often, people want to know what God is saying but are unwilling to spend time with Him to find out. If you want a different outcome, be like Daniel. He disciplined himself to stay away from all distractions for three weeks so he could hear from God, and it worked.
God has promised, “For I will pour water on him who is thirsty…” (Isaiah 44:3, NKJV). Get thirsty for Him, and you will get His attention. You don’t have to fast for three weeks like Daniel; the principle is that if you tune your attention to God, you will certainly receive His. Praise God!
