What shall we say, then? Should we continue to live in sin so that God’s grace will increase?
—Romans 6:1 (GNT)
As a believer in Christ Jesus, one of the things you must deliberately resist is living in sin. Why? Because it is a never-ending cycle that gradually destroys your walk of faith and keeps you enslaved to Satan. Sadly, many believers today are trapped in this web of manipulation. Because they choose to keep their struggles hidden, they often go deeper and deeper until it begins to damage their spiritual lives. Beloved, this is not how God intends us to live. God does not want us to live in sin because sin becomes the strength Satan uses against us. That may sound surprising, so let me explain.
According to Scripture, the devil is the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10). He knows that Jesus has already paid the ultimate price for our redemption, so he no longer has any legitimate ground to accuse or attack believers. However, in order to regain a foothold, he works through human lusts and weaknesses, leading people to stumble. Once a believer falls into sin, that sin becomes a legal ground the devil uses to accuse them in the courts of heaven. Through these accusations, he brings attacks, manipulation, and affliction into the believer’s life until those accusations are addressed through knowledge, repentance, and prayer.
As long as this remains unresolved, the believer living in sin is often overwhelmed by guilt. Their faith becomes weak, they live under condemnation, and they feel disconnected from God. Yet this has never been God’s plan for your life.
To avoid the manipulations of the devil, you must not give him legal ground. This means staying away from sin, confessing any hidden struggles, and genuinely repenting. Ask God for forgiveness and for the grace to walk in victory. Make a conscious decision to obey the instruction of Scripture: “You must not surrender any part of yourselves to sin to be used for wicked purposes. Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes.”
—Romans 6:12–13 (GNT)
Did you see that? God calls us to live in submission to Him, not in rebellion. This posture of surrender keeps us free and spiritually secure.
Today’s Rhema
Hidden sins create legal grounds for the devil to attack, but when you stay away from sin, he has nothing to use against you.
Confession for the Day
Father, I am grateful for revealing this truth to me. I receive grace today to stay away from hidden sins and to live in submission to You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
