“…a merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bone…” Proverbs 17:22 (NKJV)

Having established the importance and the blessings of cheerfulness, it is your responsibility now  to maintain a joyful heart no matter what you face or go through because a merry heart is like medicine. When you are cheerful, you prolong your days but when you are always sad you are killing yourself slowly, and you do not know it. I know that it might sound harsh but this is the truth. Many will not accept this, but when we take a look at the counsel of God’s word, that is what it communicates. You have a choice to choose cheerfulness instead of bitterness.

So think about it, which one would you rather do. You might say there are some situations that do not permit you to be merry, so what can we do in such situations? Well, that is where you have been lied to and you have accepted the lie. Stop allowing situations to be the determining factor behind your joy. Let Jesus and the salvation which you have received from Him, be the source of your joy. When you live like this, even though things are not going the way you want them to go, you will still be cheerful because trials don’t define who you are, Jesus does and He says you are victorious. And truly you are. Accept it and let it be your reality always. Praise God!
