“…a merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bone…” Proverbs 17:22 (NKJV)
Our opening text communicates a very important truth that is usually ignored by many people in times of difficulty. When they go through challenges, they want to let the whole world know. They get sad, moody and gloomy because they don’t see any reason to be cheerful. But the Bible says “…a merry heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bone…” Proverbs 17:22 (NKJV). In the Good News translation, it says “…being cheerful keeps you healthy. It is a slow death to be gloomy all the time…” Did you see that? It says being gloomy all the time is slow death, meaning if you are in the habit of always being sad because things are not working out, you are killing yourself slowly without realizing it. Therefore, take advantage of this truth today and make the necessary adjustments.
As long as life is concerned there will always be issues here and there but don’t let them determine your cheerfulness. We have already been told to count it all joy when we go through diverse challenges (James 1:2). Therefore, be cheerful at all times, it has a way of dismantling the agenda of the wicked and giving you victory. Praise God.
