Do not scorn or reject gifts of prophecy or prophecies [spoken revelations—words of instruction or exhortation or warning] – 1 Thessalonians 5:20 (AMP)

“What can I do to take these words seriously?” You might ask. The first step is to identify a prophetic utterance. This requires discernment, because not all utterances are prophetic. However, when a word is truly prophetic, the Holy Spirit will bear witness in your heart.

Once you recognize that a word is from God, the next thing to do is believe it. Accept that the word is yours and begin to proclaim it with conviction. If it is a warning, take it seriously and stay away from the matter being addressed. The Holy Spirit, who sees the future, has spoken for your protection.

For example, if your man of God instructs you not to go on a particular journey, be wise and obey, because the Spirit of God is involved. If a word of blessing is declared over your life—believe it and align your expectations accordingly.

Similarly, if your man of God declares a period of fasting and prayer, and instructs the congregation to come together to break the fast, don’t treat it lightly. Participate wholeheartedly. These are the ways God guides His people. Anyone who desires to receive from God must learn to honor and act on such inspired instructions.

Someone may ask, “But what if a prophecy came to me about my finances and nothing has happened yet? Should I still believe it?” The answer is yes. You must keep believing, because the Word of God does not expire. If the word came from God, your responsibility is to hold on to it, confess it, and align yourself with it.

When you begin to doubt, you hinder its fulfillment in your life. You don’t lose prophecy until you begin to doubt it. So I admonish you: take prophetic utterances seriously. Place value on inspired instructions. They are the guidance you need to move to the next level in life.

Confession for the Day

Dear Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, I thank You for revealing deeper realities about prophetic utterances to me. I receive wisdom to discern when a prophetic word or instruction is given, and I receive grace to take it seriously and align myself with it. I declare that I value and honor the guidance You give me through Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
