“…keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts…” Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV)

Having understood the importance of the heart in our success or failure in life, we will be looking at the admonition given to us in the Bible so that we can have a deeper understanding of the magnitude of this truth. In the book of Romans 12:2, Paul says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Now, the question is, why did he say that? Well, it is simple. We are surrounded by several negative pieces of information that program our minds in the wrong way. We are surrounded by people who make us think in the wrong way and we are surrounded by organizations that program our minds wrongly. So, it is important that you use God’s word to deprogram your mind of the wrong things and put it into the right programming that is needed for your progress. When you do this, there is no telling what kind of life you will live.

There are lots of people today whose minds have been greatly polluted and, because of that, it has affected everything that they do. I remember counseling a young lady who had suffered a lot of hurt from her childhood to the point that it had formed her thinking. She was so bitter and full of rage that all that came out of her mouth reflected the condition of her mind. All efforts to try to help her think right and see well proved abortive, so I let her be. But one thing I noticed is that she was not free. The condition of her heart had made her a very lonely person whose relationships with people had been greatly affected. But she could not see it, and there was nothing I could do. Beloved, the quality of life you will live and the liberty you will enjoy in life is completely dependent on the status of your heart. Therefore, get rid of everything that pollutes the heart. Bitterness, hatred, unforgiveness, small thinking, jealousy, and the likes of it, all of these program our hearts in the wrong way. Reprogram your heart today with the word of God (God’s counsel) and start thinking right. It will change everything in your life. Praise God!
