Sin must no longer rule in your mortal bodies, so that you obey the desires of your natural self. Nor must you surrender any part of yourselves to sin to be used for wicked purposes. Instead, give yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and surrender your whole being to him to be used for righteous purposes. —Romans 6:12–13 (GNT).

As you grow in your walk with God, you must become mindful of whom you’re submitted to. It’s possible to be “in Christ” and yet still yield to sin, thereby resisting Christ your Lord and Saviour. Every time you give in to the desires of the flesh you are, in effect, obeying a rival master—something many of us do without fully grasping the consequence. We act unconsciously because we haven’t examined how repeated small “yes”es open doors to the enemy.

Remember the Bible’s blunt warning: “Unfaithful people! Don’t you know that to be the world’s friend means to be God’s enemy? If you want to be the world’s friend, you make yourself God’s enemy.” —James 4:4 (GNT).

To avoid being counted an enemy of God, make a deliberate decision to submit to Him rather than to sin. Our opening text urges exactly that: give yourselves to God as those brought from death to life and offer every part of your being for righteous purposes. And Paul drives the point home: “Surely you know that when you surrender yourselves as slaves to obey someone, you are in fact the slaves of the master you obey—either of sin, which results in death, or of obedience, which results in being put right with God.” —Romans 6:16 (GNT).

Ask yourself: which parts of your life have you been unconsciously surrendering to the enemy? Name them, confront them, and begin to say “no.” Replace passive habit with purposeful surrender to God, put accountability in place, and let Scripture renew your choices. You’ll see small changes at first, then powerful transformation.

Confession for the Day

Father, I am grateful for this truth. I choose this day to submit myself to You, and I say no to the flesh and all its desires, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
