“…you can be sure that on judgement day everyone will have to give account of every useless word he has ever spoken…” Matthew 12:36 (GNB)

I have taken out time to study the life of our Lord Jesus and discovered that throughout His walk on earth, He never used profane words. Even when he was being mistreated, He endured it humbly and never said a word. Like a lamb about to be slaughtered, like a sheep about to be sheared, he never said a word (Isaiah 53:7-8 GNB) He showed us an example of how we should live our lives regardless of the situation we find ourselves, because sometimes, anger could make us use the wrong words.

You’ve got to understand that God detests the use of evil words. In Isaiah 58:9 when God was speaking to the Israelites about the kind of fasting that he wanted from them, He said “…when you pray, I will answer you. When you call to me, I will respond. “If you put an end to oppression, to every gesture of contempt and to every evil word…” Take note that among other things, God pointed out that they should put to an end to the use of evil words. The Amplified Classic Version of the Bible puts it better, it says “…then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and He will say, Here I am. If you take away from your midst yokes of oppression [wherever you find them], the finger pointed in scorn [toward the oppressed or the godly], and every form of false, harsh, unjust, and wicked speaking…” Did you see that? If God could bring this up, it means that it is a major thing we ought to give attention to. Therefore, I admonish you to begin today to remove from your vocabulary every abusive and evil word. Let your new life in Christ reflect in the way you talk. Let people see God in the way you speak and not the devil, because one day you will be held accountable for the words that came out of your mouth. God bless you!
