Jesus said to them, “The kings of the pagans have power over their people, and the rulers claim the title ‘Friends of the People.’ But this is not the way it is with you; rather, the greatest one among you must be like the youngest, and the leader must be like the servant.” —Luke 22:25–26 (GNT)
Do you want to be great? The secret is simple—be a servant. I know that might not sound like the answer you expected because it seems too easy, but that’s exactly how greatness works in the kingdom of God. The world tells us that to be great, you must be in charge, have people serving you, and control others. But that’s not the way of the kingdom. In God’s kingdom, true greatness is found in humility and service.
There was a time when the disciples of Jesus were arguing about who among them was the greatest. When Jesus heard this, He decided to correct their thinking. He said, “The kings of the pagans have power over their people, and the rulers claim the title ‘Friends of the People.’ But this is not the way it is with you; rather, the greatest one among you must be like the youngest, and the leader must be like the servant.” Did you see that? In God’s order, leadership is measured by service, not by how many people serve you.
So if you truly want to be great—both in this world and in the kingdom of God—seek opportunities to serve. Don’t wait for people to serve you; rather, find joy in serving others. Sadly, many believers avoid service because they want positions of recognition and honor, but in the kingdom, honor comes after service. Service is the seed, and greatness is the harvest.
Make a decision today to align with God’s principle. Serve God faithfully, serve in your local church, serve your family, and serve humanity. The results will show in every area of your life—spiritually, financially, and otherwise. Remember, when you serve, you position yourself for promotion and greatness. Hallelujah!
