But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint. —Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)

Have you ever realized that your zeal for spiritual things was burning low? Have you ever found yourself becoming spiritually dry and wondering what is going on? Many people experience this, but the problem lies in how to come out of it. Here are a few steps on how to come out of spiritual dryness and be fired up to do more in life and achieve more for God and His Kingdom.

First, you must go back to God’s Word for study and meditation. In my walk with God, I discovered that one of the things that boosts your spiritual zeal is His Word. Whenever you find yourself becoming spiritually dry, it often means you are no longer dwelling on God’s Word and its reality. This usually happens when we get so busy and occupied that we no longer have time for the Word. You must make a conscious decision to study for days and dwell on the words you read. Let them minister to you and gain roots in your heart.

Secondly, as you study the Word, add prayer and fasting to it. Why is it important to fast and pray? Because fasting opens your spirit, awakens your spiritual senses, and makes you very sensitive to God and His voice. It helps His Word make more sense to you and causes you to receive revelations that will last. Prayer stirs you up in an unimaginable way and causes the Word you have meditated upon to take root.

Finally, stay positive and see your inspiration and zeal return. Stop seeing yourself as dry and start seeing yourself burning with revelation and zeal for the things of the Spirit. Sometimes, what people call spiritual dryness is simply negativity arising from their perception.

Some feel that because they are no longer hearing God or feeling His presence, they have become spiritually dry, but that is often just the mind. The fact that you do not feel or hear God does not mean He is not with you, nor does it mean you are dry. It only means you have to be more sensitive and stay in faith, knowing that come what may, He is with you, and you are very much alive in your zeal.

I encourage you to take these steps and wait on the Lord. As the Bible says in our opening text, “But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint” (Isaiah 40:31, NKJV). Hallelujah!
