And suddenly, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years came from behind and touched the hem of His garment. For she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well.” — Matthew 9:20-21 (NKJV)
In the journey of life, what you say to yourself matters. It plays a significant role in shaping your experiences and determining your outcomes. Some people talk themselves down, constantly undermining their abilities, while others lift themselves up by speaking the right words. Those who understand the power of positive self-talk take advantage of it and enjoy the benefits that follow.
If you want to experience those same benefits, you must make a conscious decision to speak positively to yourself, especially in difficult times. If you constantly talk yourself down, you may remain stuck in your challenges. But if you learn to encourage yourself, you will always find a way to rise above obstacles. It’s that simple!
In our opening scripture, we see the story of a woman who had suffered from a bleeding condition for twelve long years. She had tried everything possible to find healing, but nothing worked. Then one day, she heard about Jesus, and she said to herself, “If only I may touch His garment, I shall be made well” (Matthew 9:21 NKJV). Despite years of disappointment, she held on to hope. She spoke to herself, and that self-affirmation propelled her to try again—and this time, she received her miracle.
She could have given up, saying, “I’ve tried everything, and nothing worked. What’s the point of trying again?” But instead, she chose to believe. The question is, what have you been saying to yourself? When you’re struggling to pay your rent or school fees, what words do you speak? When job interviews don’t yield results, do you talk yourself up or down?
This is something you must pay attention to. The power of your words can shape your reality. If you commit to speaking life over yourself, you’ll be amazed at the victories you will experience in a short time. Hallelujah!
