“But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the law and the prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe.”Romans 3:21 (NKJV)

The topic of righteousness is greatly misunderstood by many in the body of Christ. Many Christians believe that righteousness is earned by doing good. But this is not the case, at least, not in the new dispensation. In the old covenant, righteousness was according to works, and it had to be earned. But now, in the New Testament, it is imparted as a free gift. You do not work to earn it; you only believe to receive it. I know this might sound odd, but I will explain.

In the Old Testament, God gave His people laws to live by, and keeping the law is what qualified them to be righteous before God. It was a system of self-righteousness, but overtime, it didn’t work because it was a difficult path to follow. The law was not easy to keep, and it wasn’t perfect; that was why the Bible said, “…by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin…”Romans 3:20 (NKJV). So, in a bid to correct this, God brought in a new strategy whereby people are justified by faith in Christ Jesus and His ultimate sacrifice for man. And that was why the Bible says, “…now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the law and the prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe”Romans 3:21 (NKJV). Therefore, as you journey in your Christian Walk, know that righteousness is not something you try to attain but something you maintain because you already have it in your nature, and it came to you as a gift (Romans 5:17) when you believed and accepted the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!

Today’s Rhema

Righteousness is not something you try to attain but something you maintain because you already have it in your nature!

Confession for the Day

Father, I am grateful for this wonderful truth that You have revealed to me. I declare today that I will walk in the consciousness of this truth, now and all the days of my life, and as I do, I abound in the blessings of righteousness in Jesus’ name. Amen!
