“…because of laziness the building decays and through idleness of hands the house leaks…” —Ecclesiastes 10:18
You may be very good with prayer and fasting; you may be very good with sowing seeds and coming to church regularly, but you see, all these things will not produce many results in your life if you are idle. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with praying, fasting, and sowing seeds. There is nothing wrong with being regular at church, but you see, what helps these activities bear fruit in your life is doing something with your hands. But when you are idle, these activities have nothing to work with, in your life. Doing something with your hands is a principle, and it is called the principle of labor. This principle is what prospers you financially, it is what guarantees that you will be profitable financially. Sadly, many of God’s people have not come to understand this truth.
I took time to try and understand why some people are suffering and not able to find a purpose in life. And I discovered that idleness is a major factor and has eaten so deeply into the lives of many people. And the problem with idleness is that it keeps the person who indulges in it very lazy and unproductive. Beloved, if there is anything you must purposely deal with in your life, it has to be idleness. It destroys and snatches away people’s dreams and destinies. Idleness is the root cause of excessive sadness, low self-esteem, and mood swings. It is a place of unfruitfulness. Anyone who finds himself or herself in this place, has signed up for a life of failure, and it will eventually catch up with that person in the process of time. The scriptures are clear on this subject. It says, “…if anyone is not willing to work, neither should he eat…” 2 Thessalonians 3:10 (NKJV) which means, as long as you decide to stay without doing anything, there will be nothing for you in this life.
Therefore, if you do not want to find yourself begging or having to depend on people again and again, you have to do something in your life and with your life. Put your brain to work and start doing research. Commit to God in prayer about the situation at hand and ask Him to speak to you concerning the steps you should take. Don’t sit down and fold your hands. The Lord has already said, I will teach you the way you should; I will instruct you and advise you…” Psalm 32:8 (NKJV). So take advantage of His word today and go to God in prayer. Praise God!
