My child, when sinners tempt you, don’t give in. —Proverbs 1:10 (GNT)
As you grow in your Christian walk, never allow yourself to be tempted by people in the world. Sometimes, when you look at their lives—the parties, the drinking, the immoral activities—it can seem like they have it all together. You might even be tempted to think that your own life is boring and that you are missing out.
But the truth is that behind all the fun they seem to be having, there is often hidden pain and depression. Some are into alcoholism and clubbing simply to forget the pain they feel inside. Many of these people feel hopeless, dissatisfied, and broken because the joy and peace that only God can give are absent. They do these things because it is the only way they know how to pursue joy, but that path only leads to death, not life.
The Bible gives this stern warning:
Do not be deceived and deluded and misled; God will not allow Himself to be sneered at (scorned, disdained, or mocked by mere pretensions or professions, or by His precepts being set aside.) [He inevitably deludes himself who attempts to delude God.] For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap. For he who sows to his own flesh (lower nature, sensuality) will from the flesh reap decay and ruin and destruction, but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not lose heart and grow weary and faint in acting nobly and doing right, for in due time and at the appointed season we shall reap, if we do not loosen and relax our courage and faint. —Galatians 6:7-9 (AMPC)
So, be encouraged today to keep your eyes off what people in the world are doing. Refuse to be tempted by their ways. Remember, you are not missing out on anything. They are the ones missing out, and your responsibility is to look for ways to bring them to salvation, not to envy them. Praise God!
