“…be at peace among yourselves” 1 Thessalonians 5:13 (NKJV)
Having established in the first part of this article the importance of pursuing peace with the brethren, you must understand that it is the Father’s desire for us to live at peace with one another. Why? Because when we do this, it proves that we have allowed the fruit of the Spirit to gain expression through us.
In case you do not know what the fruit of the Spirit is, the Bible says, “…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…” (Galatians 5:22 NKJV). Did you see that? Sadly, many believers today are not mindful of this. Instead, they allow the works of the flesh to dominate their lives. But this is not God’s plan for us. We must make a conscious decision to pursue peace with the brethren.
We may not come from the same earthly parents, but we are certainly from the same spiritual roots. Always remember God has brought us into oneness with His Son Jesus. He is the vine, and we are the branches. We sprang forth from Him, and it’s expected that we recognize this and live accordingly. Stop picking fights with the people around you and stop getting easily offended.
Yes, you heard me right. Most times, this is where we miss it. When we are easily offended, it becomes hard to maintain peace with others. Therefore, it is crucial to refrain from offense and let the pursuit of peace always stay at the forefront of your life. Refuse to allow the devil to drive you into bitterness against anyone because that is not God’s plan for your life.
Be a peacemaker and always strive to ensure that peace reigns in your relationships at all costs. When you live like this, you shut the devil out of your life and relationships, leaving him with no advantage over you. Moreover, as a peacemaker, you represent the kingdom of God well, and in the long run, you are the one who benefits from it. So no matter the odds, pursue peace with the brethren at all costs. Praise God!
