“But no one has ever been able to tame the tongue. It is evil and uncontrollable, full of deadly poison. We use it to give thanks to our Lord and Father and also to curse other people, who are created in the likeness of God.” — James 3:8-9 (GNT)

As you mature in your walk with God, you must come to the place where praises and cursing do not come from the same mouth. Your mouth was given to you to praise God, shape your life, and edify others. It would be wrong to use that same mouth to worship God while also cursing or speaking ill of people. Sadly, many believers fall into this habit—offering praises to God one moment and then tearing others down with the same tongue. But this is not how God wants us to live.

God desires that we eliminate corrupt speech from our mouths. He calls us to remove curse words, vulgar language, and all destructive speech. Instead, He wants us to consecrate our words for praise and edification. I remember when I first encountered this truth—it was difficult to change because I had become accustomed to using my words carelessly. However, when I saw what the Bible said about this, I knew I had to make an immediate change.

The Scriptures say: “Words of thanksgiving and cursing pour out from the same mouth. My friends, this should not happen! No spring of water pours out sweet water and bitter water from the same opening. A fig tree, my friends, cannot bear olives; a grapevine cannot bear figs, nor can a salty spring produce sweet water.” — James 3:10-12 (GNT) Did you see that? When I came across this, I repented of my previous ways and chose to honor God with my words.

I encourage you to do the same today. Refrain from using the wrong words. Dedicate your mouth to speaking life, encouragement, and praise. Hallelujah!

Today’s Rhema

Your mouth was given to you to praise God and edify people—use it for that purpose only!

Confession for the Day

Father, I am grateful for revealing this truth to me. I declare today that the grace to use my mouth wisely and rightly is at work in me. My words bring life, and I speak only what blesses me and those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
