“…but when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come…” John 16:13 (NIV)
In the first part of this article, we focused on the fact that you can actually hear God speak to you, if you will make a conscious decision to pay attention to Him. But then, someone might say, how do I know when God is speaking to me? Should I expect a loud voice or a whisper? Well, it is important to know that God may not always speak with an audible voice as some are expecting. In fact, one of the key reasons many of God’s people have missed the voice of God is because they are expecting some spectacular event. So they miss the communications of God because their mind is on the spectacular.
Beloved, you must understand that God may not always speak to you in a loud, audible voice. Most times, He would speak either through a still small voice, an inner witness or even through images and dreams. In most cases, it may just be a part of the scripture which He keeps bringing to your mind. Some other times, it could even be through a song. You could find yourself singing a particular song and if you pay attention, you will discover that the song you are singing is just a message from God regarding you. Whichever way He speaks, if you pay attention, you will always hear Him speak. This is the reason why you must be a student of the Bible, because through studies of the Bible, you make yourself susceptible to His voice. You prepare yourself and position yourself to recognize His voice when He speaks and understand what He says. So, if you truly want to hear Him speak always, be a diligent student of the Bible and pay more attention to Him. Jesus Christ said, “…my sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me…” John 10:27 (NKJV).
