Black letters on the book

“Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to teach them that they should always pray and never become discouraged.”Luke 18:1 (GNT)

Over the years in counseling, I’ve heard one phrase far too often: “I’m not praying anymore.” When I ask why, the response is usually, “I’m tired. I’ve been praying, but nothing is happening.” And this, beloved, is where many believers miss it—not because God has failed to answer prayers, but because we’ve misunderstood the true purpose of prayer.

You see, many approach prayer as a transaction: “If I pray, I must get something.” So, when what they expect doesn’t come in their timing or form, they grow weary and stop altogether. But this was never God’s intent for prayer. Prayer isn’t primarily about making requests—it’s about fellowship.

Prayer is the way we commune with our Heavenly Father. It is how we maintain intimacy with Him. And when we remain consistent in that fellowship, something powerful happens—His presence begins to rub off on us. We receive grace, strength, and mercy in ways we don’t even fully realize. So when someone says, “I’m tired of praying,” they’re essentially saying, “I’m tired of spending time with God.” That’s a dangerous place to be, because fellowship is the lifeline of our relationship with God.

Think about it: No one spends time in a kitchen frying chips and comes out smelling the same. The aroma clings to you. Likewise, no one truly spends time in the presence of the King of kings and comes out empty-handed. God knows how to reward those who seek Him. Every time you choose to pray—whether you feel like it or not—there’s a deposit made in your spirit, a strengthening of your soul, and a release of grace over your life.

And beyond that, He promises to reveal hidden truths. He says, “Call to me, and I will answer you; I will tell you wonderful and marvelous things that you know nothing about.”Jeremiah 33:3 (GNT)

So, don’t give up on prayer. Don’t let weariness or delay rob you of the communion that sustains your walk with God. Make prayer your lifestyle, and watch how the supernatural becomes your norm. Hallelujah!
