“….and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you….” 1 Thessalonians 4:11 (ESV)

We live in an age where everyone wants to show off what’s happening in their lives through social media. Unfortunately, most of the time it’s based on a lie. Now, if you are not a person who minds his or her own business, you will either end up in bitterness, jealousy or envy. You could even go as far as slipping into depression because of comparison and envy. In most cases, you become angry at God thinking He hasn’t done much in your life. Many have entered into all manner of wrong things because they just want to measure up to others while many other people have entered into all kinds of debt and just because of what they saw on social media.

Beloved, if you choose to live like this – not minding your own business, trust me, you will fall into many troubles that you will either regret or have to live with for many years of your life. Therefore, it is important that as you journey in your Christian walk, you learn to mind your own business. It is true that some of these things people are posting on social media and display pictures can be very obvious, but refuse to be moved by them. Refuse to be influenced by them, instead go through those things with filters or better still mind your own business. Stop taking everything you see on social media to heart. The Bible says in our opening text, “….aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you….” 1 Thessalonians 4:11 (ESV). Did you get that counsel? It’s a matching order to carefully mind your own affairs. The peace that comes with minding your business is second to none. If you would learn to mind your business, you will not only experience peace, but you will also not be influenced negatively or make king sized mistakes. So, I urge you to take this seriously and mind your own business. When you see others progressing, rejoice with them, when you see people who are going through difficulties, don’t laugh at them, instead pray for them and keep your focus on what God is doing in your life. He is the one who brings promotion and when it is your time, it will surely speak. Hallelujah!

Confession for the Day

Glorious and ever-living Father, I thank you for this wonderful counsel you have brought to me, I choose this day to mind my own business and to focus on what you are doing in my life and reach out for where you are taking me to in Jesus’ name. Amen!
