but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the LORD. —Jeremiah 9:24 (NIV)

In my walk with God, one of the things I have learned is to never trust in the ability of the flesh but in the power of His Spirit, because “by strength no man shall prevail” (1 Samuel 2:9). I have learned to make my boast in the Lord and not in man, because He alone can help you achieve all things.

I encourage you to do the same. Many people tend to boast in men because they know one or two people in places of authority. However, no matter how highly placed these individuals are, they are still human and limited in their abilities. There are matters they may be able to help you with, but there are others they will never be able to handle.

So, refuse to glory in men. Stop thinking that your promotion is tied to one person somewhere or that you need a godfather to achieve your goals, because people will often fail you. But God, our Father, will never fail. When your trust is in the Lord and you make your boast in Him, there is no telling what you will be able to accomplish.

Change your focus today and start looking to Jesus. For it is written:

“Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited.” —Jeremiah 17:5-6 (NKJV)

But for the man who trusts in the Lord, the Bible says:

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.” —Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NKJV)

Confession for the Day

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for being a Father to me and for Your fatherly love and care. I will always look to You, from whence comes my help, provision, and protection. No matter the odds, I will never take my eyes off You, in the name of Jesus. Amen!
