Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. —Psalms 25:4 (NKJV)
A brand new year has begun, and people around the world are engaged in various pursuits. Many are chasing new deals, job roles, or contracts. While there is nothing wrong with these ambitions, as a child of God, you must be certain that your pursuits align with His desires for you at this moment. You need the clarity of His vision to ensure your efforts are not in vain.
When a new year starts, many fail to realize that their first priority should be discovering the will of the Father. Knowing His will allows you to channel your efforts, attention, and strength toward the correct path. Instead of doing this, many chase after what they feel is right based on human reasoning. As a mature believer, you should desire to know what the Master wants from you before making any significant move.
It is dangerous to begin the race for the year without first hearing from the Lord regarding how you should run. Over the years, I have seen many individuals run with great speed without knowing the will of God, only to find the results lacking. We must remember that we were brought into this world by a Creator whose purposes for our lives are meant to prevail. Seeking His counsel ensures that our energy is invested in what truly matters.
I encourage you this year to be disciplined enough to seek out what the Master desires. You must deliberately create time for this and engage in activities that help you discern His will. The Psalmist understood this necessity when he cried out, Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths —Psalms 25:4 (NKJV). Be diligent in seeking the counsel of the Savior during this season.
Focus your heart on the wisdom of the Spirit so that you can run with confidence. The Bible reminds us that there are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the Lord’s counsel—that will stand —Proverbs 19:21 (NKJV). By aligning your heart with His, you ensure that your year is built on a foundation that cannot be shaken. Trust Him to lead you into the specific purpose He has designed for you.
