“…then all the assembly shall know that the Lord does not save with sword and spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands…” —1 Samuel 17:47
I wanted to know in detail how David defeated Goliath of Gath, so I decided to study the story very carefully, and I discovered that one of the things that helped David have victory over the Philistine was knowledge—knowledge of God, to be precise. Even though David was just a young boy whom everybody underestimated, he was not young in the area of the knowledge of God. He knew God intimately, so he understood how God worked. His knowledge of God and His power went a long way toward helping him confront the giant without a second thought. Because of his knowledge, David did not consider his size or the size of the Philistine; all he knew was that the Philistine was defiling the army of God. He knew that much, and in the long run, he got the victory because he knew God. As a matter of fact, his knowledge about God and His saving power made him boast in the Lord. He said, “…this day the Lord will deliver you into my hand and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel…” 1 Samuel 17:46 (NKJV) Did you see that?
Now, that’s what I call confidence. But you will agree with me that this confidence only came as a result of what David knew. This is the reason Bible scholars have said David did not only defeat Goliath through faith but with knowledge as well. For days, the Philistines continually threatened the Israelites, but in less than one hour, what posed a big problem for the Israelites came to an end because a little boy knew God.
Beloved, the same thing applies today; the challenges that are right before you and threatening your peace can actually come to an end in a few minutes or days. All that is required of you is to know the Lord. A man of God once said, “You are just a revelation away from your solution” In other words, one revelation about God can make all the difference you need.
Therefore, get to work. Make a conscious decision to develop a passion for God and to know Him more. The more you know God, the more you discover who you are, and the more you discover who you are, the more you excel in all things and have no struggle at all. When there is knowledge, struggle is reduced. Therefore, desire to know Him more and watch your life turn around for good. Remember the Bible records that “…the people that do know their God, shall be strong and do exploits…” Daniel 11:32 (KJV)
