“…for you have magnified your word above all your name.” Psalms 138:2 (NKJV)
When you listen to most worship or praise songs today, you hear names like “Yahweh,” “Jehovah Rapha,” “Elohim,” “El-Shaddai,” and others. These names are used to sing praises to God, acknowledging the amazing things He has done and who He is. While there is nothing wrong with calling God by these names, it is important to understand that God has moved beyond those revelations. It is true that He is Jehovah Rapha, Jehovah Nissi, and Yahweh, but the greater truth is that He has invested all of these titles into one name: Jesus. Now, God wants you to be as conscious of the name Jesus as you are of the other names. The name “Jesus” is the fullest revelation of who God is to us.
In the past, God revealed Himself in parts to His people. For example, in Exodus 6:2, “God spoke to Moses and said to him, ‘I am the Lord. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name, the Lord, I was not known to them.'” This means that to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, God revealed Himself as the Almighty, but the aspect of God as the Lord was not known to them. To Moses, however, He revealed Himself as Lord. In the same way, God has revealed Himself to us today as Jesus. So every time you call on the name of Jesus, you are referring to the fullness of Whom God is.
I understand this might sound surprising or even controversial, but it is the truth. Some people may not accept this because they are accustomed to calling God by His other names, which is perfectly fine. The purpose of this article is not to discourage you from using the other names of God but to help you understand that God has given us a new name that represents all of who He is. Next time you call on or use the name of Jesus, do so with revelation and receive the fullness of its power. Hallelujah!
