For a child is born to us! A son is given to us! And he will be our ruler. He will be called, “Wonderful Counselor,” “Mighty God,” “Eternal Father,” “Prince of Peace.” —Isaiah 9:6 (GNT)

Whenever Christmas approaches, you begin to hear arguments that it is a pagan festival and should not be celebrated. In most cases, people make these arguments with great passion because they do not want believers to celebrate. However, the truth remains that these arguments do not stem from a love for Jesus. Often, they are born of hatred and are satanically influenced. The reason for this is simple: the devil does not want Jesus to be celebrated.

Beloved, one thing you must understand about Christmas is that we are not celebrating a day, but a Person. We celebrate the birth of Jesus and what He has done for humanity. No matter the arguments, we cannot deny the fact that Jesus was born and came into the world to pay the ultimate price for us. Our celebration is Christ-centered.

Therefore, as you celebrate this season, let your heart be focused on Christ and His finished work. Do not allow anyone to make you feel bad for honoring the birth of the One who died for you and gave you eternal life. There is no one else in all the earth who has done this for you, so why not celebrate Him?

The world is full of carnal celebrations that go unquestioned; do not let anyone discourage you from celebrating the birth that brought peace and glad tidings to men. This is worth celebrating! When the angel of the Lord appeared to the shepherds, he said:

“Don’t be afraid! I am here with good news for you, which will bring great joy to all the people. This very day in David’s town your Savior was born—Christ the Lord.” —Luke 2:10-11 (GNT)

When the angel finished speaking, the Bible says:

“Suddenly a great army of heaven’s angels appeared with the angel, singing praises to God: ‘Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom he is pleased!’” —Luke 2:13-14 (GNT)

Confession for the Day

Oh Lord, I am grateful for this exposition. I choose to celebrate the birth of Jesus wholeheartedly and joyously. I refuse to allow anyone or anything to stop my celebration, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
