“…it is written, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God…” —Matthew 4:4 (NKJV)
As far as life in this world is concerned, there will always be challenges to confront us, hurdles to cross, and fights to win. However, as Christians, it is important that we are prepared to go through these challenges and win, without breaking under the pressure. We must brace ourselves to avoid the tragedy of defeat.
To do this, we must choose to hold on to the promises of God in the scriptures concerning the challenges we are going through. A strong hold on the scriptures is the only guarantee of victory in any challenge we face.
Our enemy, the devil, knows us very well and knows our weaknesses. He knows what to do to make us break under pressure and give up. He tries to intimidate us by putting fear in our minds. But our responsibility is to resist him and stand our ground by holding on to the scriptures and staking our lives on them.
The reason for this is that only the scriptures can keep you going and winning. It is only the scriptures that keep you encouraged and determined, no matter what you face. Therefore, it is important that you take the scriptures very seriously and be fully dependent on them. There are many people out there who do not really see how studying the scriptures helps them come out of any situation, but the truth is that the scripture is key. When you study the scriptures, three important things happen to you.
First, you become aware of the promises of God concerning the situation in which you have found yourself. Secondly, studying the scriptures will strengthen your faith in God and His word. Remember the Bible says to us, “…faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 (NKJV) Finally, studying the scriptures helps you endure and fight the good fight of faith till you win. Therefore, take this seriously and hold on to the scriptures in times of difficulty. As long as you will not let go and allow the scriptures to be your stronghold and influence, you will always win. Praise God!
