People who do not get along with others are interested only in themselves; they will disagree with what everyone else knows is right. —Proverbs 18:1 (GNT)

As a believer, one of the many reasons you must be mindful of your inter-personal relationships is because relationships are a form of currency. While it is true that money answers all things, there are situations where you have to rely only on the relationships you’ve built over the years.

The question is, how have you been treating your relationships? Have you been nurturing them well or casting them aside? Over the years, I have noticed that many believers do not know how to manage relationships well. They keep burning bridges, and when it’s time to use that connection, they are stranded.

In most cases, you will hear them say things like, “I don’t need anybody to succeed; I only need God.” As sincere as that statement might sound, it won’t help you. Yes, it is God who helps people, but He often does it through other people.

What if God brought that relationship into your life for a rainy day? What if God, knowing that certain issues would arise in the future, sent that man or woman into your life ahead of time? He may have placed them there so you would have their help to get through future challenges.

Beloved, stop treating your relationships carelessly. Stop thinking you don’t need people, because you cannot stand alone. Humankind was not designed to be isolated. If you adopt a solitary life, you will eventually be stranded because you are working against God’s original design.

God’s plan is for people to function in a community, because everything you need to live a glorious life is found there. I admonish you today to identify the right people in your life and value your relationships with them. Do all you can to protect and manage those relationships well, because one day you may need them to overcome a challenge. Praise God!

Confession for the Day

Father, thank you for opening my eyes to this truth and for bringing wonderful relationships into my life. I receive the grace and ability to identify the right relationships and manage them well, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
