celebration, joy, victory

So David realized that the LORD had established him as king of Israel and was making his kingdom prosperous for the sake of his people. After moving from Hebron to Jerusalem, David took more concubines and wives, and had more sons and daughters” 2 Samuel 5:12-13 (GNB)

Previously, we discussed some basic principles for how God wants us to handle success. The truth is, success can be an enemy if not handled properly. I understand this may challenge some religious mindsets, but with success comes the need for caution, not to be ruled by it. While achieving success is certainly positive, it’s crucial to understand its potential negative impacts.

For instance, in our opening text, we see the story of King David. Remember, this was a young shepherd boy, once humble and innocent. You wouldn’t expect him to take more wives than usual, but success influenced his actions. His love for women became amplified, even to the point of taking another man’s wife and orchestrating her husband’s death in battle (Scripture Reference: 2 Samuel 11-12). Success undeniably transformed him. Thankfully, his passion for God and His kingdom remained.

The key takeaway from this story is not that no one knew King David’s capacity for sin. The question is: Now that God has answered your prayers, who are you becoming? Are you maintaining your passion for God and His work? Do your values still align with His ways and spiritual matters? Do you still respect God’s word and the people He sends to guide you? These are essential questions to consider throughout your journey, so that success doesn’t lead you to forget God, the source of your achievements.

The idea of success is not to forget God, but to leverage your success to honor and worship Him, while spreading the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, as you walk with God, never let success take root in your heart and replace Him. Hallelujah!

Today’s Rhema

As you journey with God, never allow success puff you up so much to the point of replacing God.
