“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward from your Father in heaven….” — Matthew 6:1 (NKJV)
In today’s world, it’s common for people to broadcast their acts of charity, often through videos or posts on social media, so that everyone knows what they’ve done. But is this how God intends for us to behave? Does He want us to flaunt our charitable deeds and boast about our good works? The answer is no.
We live in a time when it seems like if people don’t see what you’re doing for others, they won’t believe you’re doing enough. So, many feel compelled to showcase their charitable acts. While there’s nothing inherently wrong with sharing good works, the Bible gives us clear guidance on this matter: “Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise, you have no reward from your Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:1 NKJV). Did you see that?
According to the scriptures, our acts of charity should be done in secret, not for public recognition. Even if people desire to see proof of your good works, you are not responsible for proving yourself to them. Your charity is a private matter between you and God, and the Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
So, the next time you are moved to help someone or support a cause, do it quietly. Even if it’s challenging to avoid public attention, remember what God expects of you. You are not called to impress men but to fulfill God’s command. Help others because it’s the right thing to do, not because you want recognition. Praise God!
