“The end of all things is near. You must be self-controlled and alert, to be able to pray.” — 1 Peter 4:7 (GNT)
As you journey in your Christian Walk, one of the keys to staying above the traps and schemes of the enemy is self-control. Though it may seem simple, self-control is vital for your preservation, promotion, and progress. It holds the key to the throne that God has ordained for you to sit on in this world. When we study the Bible closely, we see that those who were able to sit on the throne God ordained for them exercised self-control. A prime example is Joseph. God graced Joseph so much in his master’s house that even his master’s wife began to look at him with longing eyes.
One day, the woman took hold of Joseph and tried to entice him to sleep with her, but Joseph exercised self-control. The Bible records: “…he refused and said to her, ‘Look, my master does not have to concern himself with anything in the house, because I am here. He has put me in charge of everything he has. I have as much authority in this house as he has, and he has not kept back anything from me except you. How then could I do such an immoral thing and sin against God?’” — Genesis 39:8-9 (GNT). Did you see that? Because Joseph chose self-control, he ultimately became a prime minister in Egypt.
Beloved, you too can become what God has ordained for you if you apply self-control in every area of your life. All that is required is a conscious decision to walk in this path, and God will help you. You might wonder, “In what areas do I need to apply self-control?” The answer is simple: in all areas of your life—from how you speak, think, and act. The key is to never say or do anything without first considering its consequences. When you begin to walk in this awareness, everything else will fall into place. Hallelujah!

Confession for the Day
Father, I am grateful for this wonderful Word. I choose this day to apply self-control in all things, and as I do, I am gaining mastery and walking in dominion. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
