By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith. —Hebrews 11:7 (NKJV)

Our opening scripture shows us that Noah responded to God’s word and direction because he possessed a godly reverence. The Bible declares that he was warned of things to come. Even though natural circumstances didn’t point to what God had shown him, Noah faithfully followed His directions. It isn’t hard to imagine what Noah experienced when he started making plans to build the ark.

The people around him likely mocked him, insisting that this divine instruction was unnecessary because God couldn’t possibly destroy the world. Some must have thought he was crazy and unrealistic. Yet, in the midst of it all, Noah faithfully continued carrying out the instructions he had received. At age 600, he finally completed the ark. It wasn’t long after that a heavy rainfall poured down from heaven, flooding the earth until the entire world was submerged.

If Noah hadn’t followed God’s voice with godly reverence, he would have perished along with everyone else that day. Instead, his fear and reverence for the Lord kept him and his family alive. This stands as a powerful lesson for every one of us. It teaches us to know God’s voice and heed His divine instructions, no matter what. We must remember that God is all-knowing, and whatever He reveals is a gift given to preserve us.

When God tells us to go a certain way, our fear and trust in Him should lead us to follow without doubt or hesitation. God is too accurate to be wrong about the things to come, and He is too powerful to play guessing games. He simply knows it all! Therefore, count yourself blessed that He reveals His secrets to you in the first place, and choose to follow the leading of the Spirit in all things. Do not let fleshly desires consume you and prevent you from yielding to the directives of the Spirit of the living God. Amen!
